| Mike Hawthorne's Hysteria is a short digest-sized trade paperback collection of Mike's comics that he self-published back in the late 90's. I think Hawthorne's art style is fantastic (looking forward to his work in Queen & Country: Opertaion Dandelion which I just picked up) - heavy lines that still retain plenty of energy. The writing and stories left me a little cold however. He starts out with some good ideas - but they don't quite mature fully or the execution leaves something to be desired. The strongest story in the collection is "Lessons," which might be auto-biographical. It's hard to tell.
It was an average read. Enjoyable at times, but nothing profound. |
