Batman Writer: Grant Morrison Penciler: Adam Kubert Publisher: DC Comics
Morrison and Kubert are on tap for a 12-month run, but that has already been interupted with a three-issue by John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake. So far the Morrison/Kubert run has been less than spectacular, though entertaining. Maybe after Ostrander/Mandrake are finished Morrison will come back with his patent trippiness that we were all expecting. |

Detective Comics Writer: Paul Dini Penciler: Various Publisher: DC Comics
Paul Dini has spun entertaining tales during his run on 'Tec so far. I list the artist as "various" because if there was suppose to be one artist teamed up with Dini on 'Tec it sure hasn't seemed like it.

Nightwing Writer: Marv Wolfman Penciler: Jamal Igle Publisher: DC Comics
Marv Wolfman is now the regular writer for Nightwing and it looks like Jamal Igle will be the artist. Haven't decided whether I like Igle's artwork or not, but I certainly don't hate it. This book is still being evaluated and is at risk of being dropped again. I guess previous writer Chuck Dixon just set the bar too high for what I want out of a Nightwing solo title. |

Robin Writer: Adam Beechen Penciler: Freddie E. Williams II Publisher: DC Comics
I know some people have taken issue with how new writer Adam Beechen has handled Tim Drake in Robin, but I think he is doing a wonderful job. In my opinoin this is the best Robin has been since Chuck Dixon steered the character when the title launched back in the mid-90s. |

Green Lantern Writer: Geoff Johns Penciler: Ivan Reis Publisher: DC Comics
GL is another title that I've heard plenty of bad things about. Me? I have been enjoying the book. I like how writer Johns has handled Hal Jordan's return to being the prime Green Lantern of Earth, and I think he has told some entertaining stories along the way. I particularly like Ivan Reis' artowrk.

Justice League of America Writer: Brad Meltzer Penciler: Ed Benes Publisher: DC Comics
While Meltzer is taking his own sweet time putting the band back together in the re-launched Justice League of America, the story has a bigger quality to it that you don't usually get in comic books. Meltzer's novel writing skills are apparent in how he constructs the plot and moves the story. Everything is moving to an obvious end game and the suspense is building at just the right pace.

The Spirit Writer: Darwyn Cooke Penciler: Darwyn Cooke Publisher: DC Comics
Darwyn Cooke brings back Will Eisner's classic hero The Spirit. If anyone could do this with the style and skill needed to honor the legacy of Eisner while making the character fresh, exciting, and new to today's readers, then Cooke is your man.

Authority Writer: Grant Morrison Penciler: Gene Ha Publisher: Wildstorm (DC Comics)
Only one issue of The Authority has been published. And the next issue isn't scheduled to hit stands until February 2007. So it's hard to get a read on this title yet. I added it to my list on the strength of the creators involved and the characters whose original series under Warren Ellis' and Mark Milliar's guidance I enjoyed immensely.

Elephantmen Writer: Richard Starkings Penciler: various Publisher: Image Comics
Elephantmen is a Sci-Fi anthology book, of sorts, featuring the characters and world that Richard Starkings created around his company's mascot, Hip Flask. It may sound like an odd beginning, and it is, but Starkings and his collaborators have been able to turn this into an interesting series.

Criminal Writer: Ed Brubaker Penciler: Sean Phillips Publisher: Marvel Comics
The lone Marvel comic on my list. The only reason that I even have a Marvel comic on my list is because of the strength of writer Brubaker and artist Phillips. I loved their work on Sleeper, and when I found out they were doing another crime comic together I knew I had to read it - regardless of who was publishing it. So far it's been worth the sacrifice.

The Killer Writer: Matz Penciler: Luc Jacamon Publisher: Archaia Studios Press
Originally published in France, this comic tells the story of a contract killer when a hit goes bad. You get deep inside his head and learn how he got his start and what he thinks about while waiting for his target or evading capture from authorities. Fasinating comic that is beautifully illustrated.

The Secret History Writer: Jean-Pierre Pécau Penciler: Igor Kordey, Leo Pilipovic, and Goran Sudzuka Publisher: Archaia Studios Press
Four siblings are given ivory cards at the dawn of time and entrusted to use the cards magically powers wisely by their dying shaman father. However, the four brothers and sisters instead become locked in an epic and neverending struggle for power and control that has monumental impact on the course of Western civilization's history. I love alternative history stories. |

| The books below are not on my monthly pull list. However, because these stories read so nicely collected, I'm picking up the trade collections as they come out. Plus, it will save me some money. |

Sin City Creator: Frank Miller Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
In the tradition of Raymond Chandler and film noir crime, Sin City chronicles the tales of the town without pity and the tough guys and mysterious dames who live there. Frank Miller is one of my personal favorites, and there are few works that he has published that I have not enjoyed. |

Fables Writer: Bill Willingham Penciler: Mark Buckingham Publisher: Vertigo (DC Comics)
The Adversary has taken over the Homelands, so the characters from the old fables and myths have been exiled to the real world to live among the Mundies in New York City. The writing is fresh and the stories surprise without feeling forced, while the artwork always expertly accompanies and enhances the story. Easily one of my favorite books on the market right now.
