They Blew It Up
Last night in front of Harry Caray's restaurant, the so-named "Bartman Ball" was destroyed in an attempt to lift the apparent curse that has kept the Cubs from winning the World Series since 1908. MSNBC, CNN, and ESPN carried the event live. Billy Corgan sang an original song to commemorate the destruction and Harold Ramis was the host of the entire circus. The event was also used to raise money for juvenile diabetes research.

Frankly I thought the whole thing was silly. They served the baseball a final meal the night before - surf-and-turf with a ice-cold Budweiser (Harry was a Bud-Man after all). They had fireworks. Singing. It just seemed all so silly.

Personally, I would have kept the ball. Put it in a Cubs Hall of Fame. It has some local historical significance. But if blowing the thing up makes people feel better so be it.
